Investigation work on Portable Water Supply for Jaffna Peninsula
The feasibility study of potable water for Jaffna Peninsula is to be carried out by the Central Irrigation Department of SriLanka. As an initial step of the feasibility study the bed survey of the Vadamarachchi Lagoon (around 90 sq.km) and was entrusted to international Training Institute of Irrigation and Water Management – Kothmale(KITI-IWM) by the Secretary Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resource Management. It was a tough assignment an this task had to be completed before the monsoonal rain common in Northern area of the country.
The survey of Vadamarachchi was commanded on 27th Sep 2017 and completed Vadamarachchi Lagoon on 19th of Nov 2017.
For this survey 22 nos. of Engineering Assistants trainees of batch 2 of KITI-IWM engaged.
The additional bed contour survey too, was carried out at Vaddaravadda lagoon and for this lagoon survey 10 nos Engineering Assistants trainees of batch 3 of KITI-IWM were engaged in addition to batch 2 trainees carried out with the guidance of Eng.Lasindu Kotuwilaarachchi, DIE, Anuradhapura. This assignment was completed on 1st of December 2017.
This total survey was co-ordinated by Eng.A.M.U.B.Alahakoon, academic coordinator of the institute on the direction of Eng.G.D.F.U.Perera, Head of the institute.
